Most mirror heaters try to fix this with these slow-moving resistive films that take forever to actually do anything. We do things differently. We use short-wave infrared (IR) emitters. Instead of trying to warm up the air around the mirror, IR goes straight for the glass. It’s the difference between waiting for a room to warm up and stepping into a beam of sunlight. Your mirror stays clear the second you step into the shower. How the magic happens The tech is actually pretty straightforward. We hook these heaters up to low-voltage relays that talk to your smart home hub. Whether it’s a motion sensor that knows you’ve entered the room or a timer in an app, the system just sends a burst of current to the IR element. Since these emitters don’t have much “thermal mass,” they don’t need time to warm up. They just hit peak temperature instantly. You aren’t waiting around for the glass to soak up heat. The photons hit the surface and turn into heat right then and there. Of course, we keep a close eye on the calibration so the glass doesn’t get too hot—nobody wants a cracked mirror because of thermal shock. Making it “Smart” To get this working with your home setup, you just need a stable power module. We stick with Zigbee or Matter-compatible controllers because they just work. Imagine a “Morning Scene” where your mirror is already defogged five minutes before your alarm even goes off. It’s a small thing, but it makes the morning feel a lot less chaotic. One thing we don’t mess around with is the moisture. Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. We use sealed connectors to keep the steam from eating away at the terminals.
